Looks like you found the right place! The flashcard idea should help! Plug in some more of the lessons, you'll do just fine. - LateToDinner, Aug 25, 2010

My Spanish teacher won't speak English.

He explains all of the grammar in Spanish. Sometimes I just don't get it.

So, spanishdict.com to the rescue!

I review the lesson at spanishdict.com. I review the grammar rules written in English (thank God) under "Reference" under "More" in the pull down menu at the top of the page.

I do a couple of flash card sets to build vocabulary.

Now I am also creating physical flash cards for verb conjugations that I can take with me and review when I am on the subway or walking to school.

Also, I use the translation and dictionary features to figure out what my homework assignments are, because the instructions use words in Spanish that I have never been exposed to.

Do this and you will keep your head above water.

My Spanish teachers didn't speak English, either, but that wasn't until 3rd year. On the other hand, my Japanese classes were taught strictly in Japanese from day one, and it was the best learning experience I ever had.

But it can be a challenge. I like Lovely's suggestion of going through the lessons here under the Learning tab. They'll definitely get you jump started. Also, read your textbook. It's there for a reason.

Good luck!

I am in absolute agreement especially since a qualified teacher usually speaks correctly with good grammar and pronunciation. - MaureenPeters, Aug 26, 2010

Many of the best teachers will speak to you only in Spanish anyway. Even if they do speak English. It is because it is easier to learn that way.

My teacher was that way. I knew more Spanish at the end of high school than most of the students with a Spanish minor in college. It helps. - wenc3, Aug 26, 2010

It's the best way to learn a language. Don't panic! My english teacher explain in English too and sometimes I don't understand obviously but you think, it's very important to listen the language.

When you learned English when you was a little child you didn't undestand and you learned it well

good luck!
