are the verbs correct in this sentence?

Espero que aprenda de su error antes de que ella se duele.

I want to say, "i hope she learns her mistake before she hurts herself"

Thank you

Otra opción:

The verbs look right. I'd leave out the ella. If you don't need it for aprenda you don't need it for se duele. Usually in Spanish when in doubt leave it out.

Also, I think you meant "...learns from her mistake..." in English.

Edit: After seeing Maria's comment and having second thoughts, I think she's right. The last verb should have been subjunctive, anyway. Antes de se duela means before she feels pain. Antes de se haga daño means to causes herself harm.

Can "se duele" mean "to hurt herself"? I thought it would be "antes de que se haga daño". Can someone answer please? - - maria_k, Aug 25, 2010
Thinking about it, I think yours is a better answer. Se duele should have been se duela, anyway, and that means to feel pain. - KevinB, Aug 25, 2010
I believe you need "que" to conjugate, otherwise it should be "antes de hacerse daño" - jeezzle, Aug 25, 2010
Hola: "Se duele" y "se duela" are incorrect. :) - LuisaGomezBartle, Aug 25, 2010

I would certainly say "Antes de que se haga daño" but then, I would certainly say "Espero que se dé cuenta de su error antes de que se haga daño" OR antes de que sea damasiado tarde even though aprender does seem to work here. Certainly she would realize her error..... Gracias. As for the se duele, it seems weird to me, would it mean before she feels pain? Seems oddly worded.
