Hola:

Sorry for the false alarm. I was using the online version of the NVI which contains the ü. However, a print volume of the same NVI does not show it. Thus, its a typo on the online version.

The following sentence is found in John 5: 33 of the NVI translation of the bible.

33 Üstedes enviaron a preguntarle a Juan, y él dio un testimonio válido.

While it may indeed be a typographical error, I'm inclined to think otherwise.

Interesting. I'm going to keep an eye on this thread. Native speakers have never seen it, the dictionary of the academy that controls the 'official' language says it doesn't exist, but a reputable translation uses it. The answer's gotta be great. - KevinB, Aug 24, 2010
Huh. Does it use "Üstedes" elsewhere in the text, or is it a one-time thing? - MacFadden, Aug 24, 2010
One time... simple typo. Glad I've never made a mistake. Yeah, yeah, get up off of the floor. - LateToDinner, Aug 25, 2010

I've never seen it spelled with the dots. Do you have an example?

Hola: No es una tilde, se llama diéresis y son los 2 punticos... - LuisaGomezBartle, Aug 24, 2010
Sorry. I was going to call it umlauts. I'm in the bad habit of using tilde for any mark. Accents aren't tildes in English, either. Only the squiggly over the ñ. - KevinB, Aug 24, 2010

I dont think there is a difference...the U just has 2 dots on it because of a typo or something else... maybe in another country they pout dots, but there is not a difference.
