Breaking Out of Beginner's Spanish
I started reading this book and it really is invaluable in the amount of knowledge that you wouldn't find in a standard grammar or other Spanish reference book. It goes through Spanish crutch words, quick replies, and good explanations on the subjunctive, imperfect, preterite, ser, estar, etc.
Comments? Anybody read this? Just thought I'd put the word out there.

I haven't read it, but it sounds like a good book. One of the keys to becoming more fluent in a language is learning to speak without translating in your head. That's why I like the approach of learning phrases and complete sentences, rather than memorizing lists of words and conjugations. Gracias por la recomendación .
This book looks a lot like this Spanish Tutorial Website: All Free Spanish Course. It is completely free and is a great way for a beginners to practice Spanish.
I actually picked the book up and thumbed through it while in a book store in NYC. Because I was running late for a train and the line was long, I decided I would order it on line.
Of course, I completely forgot about it by the next day. Thanks so much for posting this. You have reminded me of this book (which did look very helpful). I am going to order it today since I seem to have short term memory issues.

I just finished reading this book from cover to cover and give it a 5 star rating. This has been the only learning text book where you can actually get enough interest in it to be able to finish it and want to go back to review over and over. I have sticky notes hanging out all over the place. I even have enough interest to take notes to formulate some test questions to get the maximum benefit. I have finished 3 chapters on the note taking so I will stop there and formulate the tests for each chapter. This may take a while but I really feel it will be worth it..
The only Spanish-learning book that you can keep on your coffee table without your friends thinking you're a nerd. Written in "Plain English" (a concept seemingly unknown to most other language authors)
Absolutely essential.
This is a GREAT book. I'd call it a must have. Anyone who's serious about learning Spanish should have it in their library.

Hitchens, thank you very much for the link. Very useful. The book is really good so far. . I have so many Spanish courses. It is a little overwhelming. . My latest one to read is. E-Z Spanish grammar .. seems good if you know quite a few words to start. Probably not the most beginner. An easy one is Visual Spanish English dictionary.. quite a good pictoral way of learning the names of things. I also listen to tons of audio and read the lessons for them reading helps me get the pronunciation right for instance.. listening the the word for tee shirt to me sounded like tomasieta when I read the lesson i found it was camasieta.
After a stressful day today I decided I needed some retail therapy. I've had this book on my Amazon Wish List for about six months so I ordered it today (for $7, including postage, used). I'm really looking forward to getting it after all of these great recommendations! Thanks, everyone!
