How to politely explain, without sounding ignorant...

Here's the situation: You are speaking to someone who is fluent in both English and Spanish. You speak some Spanish, but you are more comfortable speaking English. How would you politely explain to the person, in Spanish, that you are more comfortable speaking English?

To say, "No hablo Español," is too elementary, and demonstrates more ignorance then you are trying to convey.

Hablo algo de español, pero...

1) prefiero hablar en inglés (I prefer to speak in English)

2) me encuentro más cómodo hablando en inglés (I feel more comfortable...)

3) me resulta más fácil hablar en inglés (I find it easier to...)

I prefer option 3. - wenc3, Aug 20, 2010
And how would these translate in English? - icepickthornton, Aug 20, 2010
I like #3 best, too. (1) I prefer speaking English, (2) I'm more comfortable speaking English, (3) It is easier for me to speak English. - KevinB, Aug 20, 2010
