I like Pedro Almodovar movies... His themes are quite new to me.... I really recommend his movies.
I also like 'El Secreto de Sus Ojos' also... Very good movie....

Thats a lot of films to get me started! 
There is a beautiful (and long...) movie called "Como agua para Chocolate" (Like water for Chocolate), that is a little on the historical (Mexico) but a lot on the what makes the Mexican Spanish culture so enchanting. It's also about love and family, good and bad. Worthwhile - the Spanish spoken is excellent. I had read the book before seeing the movie, and was very impressed by the movie.
Of course, anything Almodovar is excellent.
El Secreto de Sus Ojos. Won an Oscar for best foreign film last year!
El Mariachi... My first exposure into Robert Rodriguez and his directing style. Check it out of you like guns, ladies and mariachi music...
I finally got to see "Bombón El Perro", and I have to recommend it. It's a shaggy dog and adorable middle-age man story, set in Patagonia. Don't worry, in this one the dog doesn't die or get run over.
The Argentine accent is a treat to listen to as well, so musical. The dog is very comical!
Oh, it's also well worth watching the extras on the DVD. The director Carlos Sorin talks about the film, along with the cinematographer Hugo Colace and artistic director.
Beautiful musical score too, the music was written by the director's son Nicolás.
Viva Cuba ! After watching that movie in my spanish class, I must say, it is one of the most beautiful videos I have ever seen as well from the scenery and message it brings to the viewer. Unfortunately it is a little sad, but I would watch this movie over and over again if I had it. It is an "A-" for yahoo critics and I think it won world awards as well.

Even if you watch this in English, there's some spoken Spanish (by Tommy Lee Jones and Mexican people).
I haven't tried the link for the Spanish version but I will later.
In my opinion this is worth watching for many reasons, but something that really struck me was the total change in the whole feel of the film once the Mexican border has been crossed. Very effective direction.
Mi favorite film is "El extraño viaje" a film by Fernando Fernán Gómez.
Other i like is "Remando al viento" a film by Gonzalo Suárez (with actor Hugh Grant).
I like Mi Mejor Enemigo. Last I checked, you could stream it for free on Netflix if you have an account.
La Comunidad - a dark humour tale of greed.
Abre Los Ojos - the original 'Vanilla Sky'.
Los Diarios de Moto - Ernesto Guevara's road trip of South America.
Volver - fabulous Almodovar movie centred around his favourite subject.
As I mentioned as an answer to another thread, I love the movie "Amores Perros".
Very entertaining and one of my favorite movies in any language. Also marks the one of the early performances of the now very famous Gael García Bernal.
