To say him when it is the direct object of the sentence you use lo.

To say "him" when it is the indirect object of the sentence you use "le" [a él] or se with another 3rd person, d.o.p.

Les (you all, them) has nothing to do with "him".

That is an over-simplification of the usage, however. There also exists the leísmo (using le for lo with direct objects) and various regional usages depending on the verb that it is used with, etc.

él can also mean "him" after a preposition.

La carta es de él. The letter is from him.

can sometimes mean him although it usually is himself (sí mismo).

se can mean him with pronominal/reflexive verbs.
