Grammar Question On Lesson 1.15

Question

Hi Everybody,

In lesson 1.15 Paralee says the following sentence "Hay unas cafes de internet al sur de la oficina de correos"

Since Café is a masculine noun should it not read "Hay unos cafes de interned al sur de la oficina de correos"

As a masculine noun cafés would be unos cafés, so that's correct. Sharp eyes!

Now, café is short for LA cafetería, and for that reason it wouldn't be so strange to refer to café as femine. Perhaps in some places that is usual.

Café in Spain is always "el café", and short of cafetería is "La cafe" (CAfe not caFé)

Café is as well the name of shop-coffee. Then is correct two expressions:

Hay unas cafes-> hay unas cafeterías

Hay unos cafés-> Hay unas tiendas que sirven café

El café = coffee and it is masculine, la café is short for la cafetería, a place where they sell coffee, and it is feminine, so it is unas cafés de internet.

Sharp eyes/ears, good question.

Edit: I'm probably completely wrong. The DRAE says café, the establishment, is masculine:

1. m. Establecimiento donde se vende y toma esta bebida y otras consumiciones.

So now I'm going to wait for someone who really knows the answer to reply.
