Cuban band Asere play a number called 'Vengan todos a bailar al son'. El son is the type of music, the hot beat which one can't help but dance to.

I'd guess at 'his/her very hot sound' referring to music.

What does, 'Su son muy caliente' mean?

It would not make alot of sense to other people here without some context but it literally, means:

His* are very hot (His what, are very hot???)

The problem is that in Spanish we don't use the verb ser to mean to be hot in a physical sense. We would use the verb 'tener' = to have

We would say: Tiene mucho calor = He is very hot

I am not sure how to express 'Hot' in a metaphorical sense that is to say someone is Hot (as in very attractive!) but I doubt it would be expressed as in the sentence above

I hope that this helps You grin

And since "su" is singular, it doesn't match "son". It should either be "sus" , or the verb should be "es". ¿Verdad? - Goyo, Aug 15, 2010

In the sentence "Su son muy caliente", son could also be referring to a type of music, especially if it comes from a Caribbean Spanish speaker. Gloria Estefan has a song called Si Señor in her album Mi Tierra where she talks about her "son".

This would be saying. . .His/her, your (formal) son is very hot! - davipete, Aug 15, 2010
To clarify, I think you are meaning her sonido or sound, son short for sonido. And not son as in mijo. ¿Verdad? - sagiia, Aug 15, 2010
They talk about the Cuban 'son' too as in 'sound'. - galsally, Aug 16, 2010
Trouble is it is hard for some of us to know all the different variations and abbreviations lol it just looked like a misprint to me - FELIZ77, Aug 16, 2010

Or - could it have been a typo (I would think of this, since I have a typo problem...)

Sí, son muy caliente(s). Yes, they are very hot.

Just another possibility...

Mountain I understand what you are saying but surely the Spanish would not use the verb ser for this? I thought tener woould always be the correct verb to mean to be hot ??? - FELIZ77, Aug 16, 2010
