(This photo shows a "part" of a mystery object from my life. The challenge? Guess what the object is and the function of the object.

If you can, post in Spanish and English, and, if clues are needed I will post them "along the way" so keep your eyes "peeled". And, a new rule for my game friends - you can post "multiple times" of course but please - one guess per post! That gives everyone "present" a chance to have a "stab at it" and makes it easier for me to follow the thread and the answers. Thanks everyone

Cherry picker is the nick name.

Used by electricians as well

Change street lights, too.

(Check out my last post everyone!) - nonombre, Aug 13, 2010

Can certainly be used for that, should get voted. - LateToDinner, Aug 13, 2010
As we say here - close but no cigar! ;) - revmaf, Aug 13, 2010
I'd be happy to send you a cigar ... you don't know how relieved I was that it wasn't an elevator! - LateToDinner, Aug 13, 2010
thanks, late - maybe it's better not to have a cigar since I don't like them ;)- - revmaf, Aug 14, 2010

Bien hecho Lateto.

Yes my mystery object is a "cherry-picker". (plataforma elevadora) I saw this one on the way to the station one morning and thought to myself - 'Well there's a mystery object if ever there was one!' (Threw my pack down and started taking photos!)

Handsome don't you think?

We call that a dustcart, or a bin lorry. - fontanero, Aug 13, 2010
- nonombre, Aug 13, 2010
Tried to find it in Ojibwe. Way too complicated for my puny brain ... gave up. Sorry, Sagiia. - LateToDinner, Aug 13, 2010
That would probably be an incredibly long word in ojibwe. Ojibwe is much simpler when you stick with things in the natural world or useful material in the traditional way of life. Modern contraptions have very long names. - sagiia, Aug 13, 2010

If it's not quite an elevator... maybe some sort of pulley system, maybe to raise and lower equipment at a construction site?

(corrections appreciated!)

How about a "dumb waiter". No idea what they are called in Spain or USA ( or Australia Annie ). A small lift ( elevator ) to move items, not persons. Most commonly food etc between floors in restaurants.

Ascensor doméstico.

In the US they are also called dumb waiters. They were invented by Thomas Jefferson. - sagiia, Aug 13, 2010
