Por ejemplo, "no duda que los politicos abusen de autoridad para "recibir" fondos del gobierno para sus electoros."

Also, is that sentence grammatically correct?

Thanks! grin

Thanks Maria-Claire,

I am writing an essay on what government is (and need 5 subjunctive clauses), and I want to say that, "No doubt, politicians abuse their power, and for that reason, "Ustedes" need to be careful when thinking about new laws (political reform)

I have right now, "No duda que los politicos abusen de su poder para conseguir fondos del gobierno para sus electoros, y por esta razón, necesiten tener cuidado cuando investigan las leyes nuevas."

It's pretty choppy, so please go easy on me. wink

*Edit: "investigAN LAS leyes NUEVAS"

Ok so one thing to remember that the subjunctive is a mood and it's used to show that you feel unsure about something. To express a doubt, wish or emotion about something or to express an action that has not yet occurred.

The clause 'no doubt' shows us that you aren't unsure so you shouldn't use the subjunctive with it you should use the indicative. smile

If you want to use the subjunctive you could start your sentence with - 'it is possible' or a similar clause which would express that you are not sure.

But it's good to see you having a go so I'll give you a vote too smile

Hey SS I think I may have confused the issue before - on your question re abuse of power - I have ammended it now.

'Abuser de' is 'abuse of'

but you will also need the 'su' if the sentence means 'their' power.

Sorry if I wasn't clear enough on your other post :(

  • so you would have to say - abusan de su autoridad para .....

I'm not sure about the rest of your sentence, could you put the English translation up too so that we can see exactly what you want to say?

smile
