Have a look at the verb conjugation chart for 'ir' to go.

Conjugate IR

You will notice that 'iba' is the imperfect conjugation - the imperfect tense is used for ongoing or recurring actions in the past.

So if you wanted to say, I used to go to the store, or I always went to the store then you would use 'iba'.

But if it's a one off, I went to the store (that one time) for my Mum then you'll need the preterite form - which you will find on the same chart smile

All the best!

And if you want some practice with those tenses - see this game as we're all learning here smile

When to use the preterite or the imperfect game
