In Lesson 1.11 Paralee uses D.O.C.T.O.R. as a way to help use the irregular verb Ser. - Description, Occupation, Characteristics, Time, Origin (nationality), Relationships

In today’s word of the day both sentences have son, (the they form of Ser).
Los muebles del comedor son antiguos.
The dining room furniture is antique.
Los muebles en una casa son comúnmente hechos de madera.
Household furniture is commonly made of wood.

Using the D. O. C. T. O. R. method son is being used because antique describes the furniture and wood also describes the furniture.

¿Soy correcta? = Am I correct?

¡Eso es! That's it! If you're saying what something is made of (description) you inevitably use ser. Same thing with how old (in general) something is (description). You still use tener to say how many years old someone is, but that has nothing to do with ser vs. estar.
