Basic spanish book to read
Hi there,
Does anyone reccomend any literature (thats quite basic) that will help me to read and recognise my spanish?
I was looking for something with a lot of dialogue in it - which will be helpful in indentifying spanish tenses.

I have this book, Laugh 'n' Learn Spanish and have found it to be pretty good and funny. It teaches Spanish by way of a popular comic strip. It goes in stages from beginner to advance and also provides a lot of useful phrases. ![alt text][1]

Another very good book for learning to read Spanish is this one:
which takes a programed approach to teaching Spanish reading that is methodical and perfect for self teaching. The title is "Spanish for Reading" by Fabiola Franco and Carl C. Sandberg.

I've found that reading books in Spanish that I've already read in English is very helpful. I've read the Harry Potter books in both, and really enjoyed them, and learned a lot from the Spanish. It's not basic Spanish, but since I already knew the story it was easy enough to follow with a dictionary at my elbow.

Um - I dont think my local libary will stock scooby doo comics in spanish!

Ok try some Scooby-Doo books in Spanish. They cost about $4, are about 70 pages, with a color skecth every 4th page.
You will find English copies at your local library -- and a kick-in-pants to read in Spanish at your level.

Unfortunately everything I read is far too complicated to even attempt to read in a second language. Perhaps I should buy a Harry Potter book and relucatently read it.
I was also looking to buy a box set of friends thats in spanish. I cant seem to find any on the internet though, do you think this would be a good idea to help supplement my learning? I picked friends as I thought everyones seen them and knows the storylines so it might be useful to aid learning, what do you think?
Im going to buy a few of those reading books you guys have suggested, I'll let you know how its going!

Do you have a particular author that you enjoy reading in English? I am thinking of someone that you enjoy reading in English for a "vacation read", you know, something that's not terribly complicated.
If so, you could try going on Amazon.com (or a similar site) and clicking on the "libros en español" tab. Then enter the author's name. Chances are yoiu will find something that has been translated to Spanish.
The advantage to reading something in Spanish that you have already read in English has been pointed out by KevinB ...
I currently have an adult student who loves Mary Higgins Clark, and she has been reading "Noche de paz", which is a translation of one of Clark's books. My student is thrilled with all of the everyday words she is learning, and she can check the original English if she needs help.
