The word capaz

The word capaz

I used to have a Spanish tutor from Argentina and she tols me that the word they use for maybe is capaz. I looked it up in the dictionary but i want able to find out too much more information about it. I'm just curious if they use this word instead of quizas, tal vez, or if they use it along side of those words and if they do are there any subtle differences. Also would the word capaz take the indicative or the subjunctive?

With just a quick look in the dictionary I found:

Capaz adverb

  1. maybe (informal) (quizá) (Andes, RP)

capaz (que) viene Pedro = Pedro might come

Even Spanish tutors make mistakes.

It didn't say anything about "perhaps" in this dictionary, what can I say?

Hola,

En Argentina usan "capaz que" como "a lo mejor", lo cual puede querer decir "maybe". Look up "capaz" in the Diccionario de la Real Academia Española, it explains it.

Hope this helps.
