It's one of the first words I learned too, then none of my Mexican friends had ever heard it and said the proper Mexican word is "mesero". Thus began the understanding of the regional differences in learning. Years ago. The second word I learned was "jinete" which I still haven't had the chance to use yet.

Camarera = means waitress (camarero - waiter)

Camarero was one of the first words I ever learnt in a Spanish lesson as my tutor was a waiter from Barcelona tongue wink (No, not manuel from Faulty Towers lol tongue rolleye)
