Uses of dale
Hi,
I have a question about uses of "dale". It is derived from dar and means "give to him, her, it". I did a search on this and found it can also be used to mean "okay" or "let's go" (although there was some confusion as to whether the person misheard the word vale instead). Howevewr, I have a different question. I get this automated email from a spanish website everytime I get a new message on the site, and the email says, "Dale click en el enlace para leer el mensaje". Of course I can figure out what they mean; in this instance I guess it's used to mean "Make a click on the link" more or less, but I'm wondering if dale is used in other constructions like this, and if so, if there are any guidelines surrounding its use. Usually it seems like the term "haz click" is used instead, by the way.

Hey , ¡Dale! is the same thing with ¡Venga! , ¡Vamos!
It's simply Come on! ... and of course it also means give it to her/him ![]()
"Haz click" and "Dale click" are both correct, and there are no specific guidelines for using Dar, which is used idiomatically in various ways, ie: Dar la vuelta .... To go for a walk, Date cuenta que ..... Just know that, Me doy .... I give up.
For OK, Sale is also used where Dale might not be.
I can give you plenty of examples of the use of dar (Please see below ) but am not aware of any particular rules regarding its use.
Examples
1 Dar a = to face
por ejemplo ; El comedor da al jardín = The diningroom faces the garden
2 Dar con algo = to find something, to come upon something
por ejemplo Esta mañana di con dinero en la calle
= This morning I found some money in the street
3 Dar de comer a = to give something to eat
por ejemplo: Di de comer al perro = I fed the dog ( a +el = al )
4 Dar la bienvenida = to welcome
5 Dar las gracias a alguien = to thank someone
Dar is also used in Idiomatic exressions:
1 Dar un paseo = To take a walk
2 Dar un embrazo = to embrace
3 Dar unas palmadas = to clap one's hands
4 Darse cuenta = to realize
5 Darse prisa = to hurry
