Can I use these two words interchangeably?

In mainland Spain we refer to pills or tablets as "los comprimidos". You may also recognise the word comprimido as the adjective meaning ´compressed´

I also have heard them used interchageably.

However, when it comes to "the pill," as in a contraceptive, it's generally called “la píldora.”

Hi uju, really, they mean the same.

However, there are expressions that only go with píldora.

Dorarle la píldora - to suck up
