The concept of "I" is understood by the ending that is placed on the verb, which is why the word "Yo" can often be omitted without any problem at all. For example, generally, in the present tense, verbs ending in -o signify that the subject of the action is "I". It's a nice little shortcut that we don't have in English.

Yes, Generally speaking, Native Spanish speakers omit (leave out) the personal pronouns...eg Yo, tú -él This applies to both Spoken Spanish ( conversation) and written conversation as the verb endings are conjuted in such a way as to make it to clear whom the action is happening/who is carryong out the activity.
