When a thread is no longer addressing the original question

When a thread is no longer addressing the original question, do I re-ask the question in another thread? Or just let the thread develop as users seem to come up with interesting comments that have nothing to do with the original question? Just curious, is all. How have SD admin handled this issue? How have regular SD members addressed this issue?

Don't open a new thread with the same question or topic.

Simply post an answer to reiterate what your original question was and ask for on-point responses.

I'm trying to keep things simple, so i liked this simple answer; especially to re-ask the question again in the answer box! Gracias. - bandit51jd, Aug 6, 2010

I don't know what the rules are, but I'm in favour of leaving them open, to see where they lead. It can be quite interesting.

Yes, this is our forum policy, on other forums "off topic" answers are simply deleted, we don't believe in that here, sometimes a very interesting answer comes up even though at the end of the thread.

However, bandit, if you feel your question has completely gone astray, don't hesitate to ask again, different title and with a link to the old thread.

Oh, wow, cool. But I learned with my dance thread that many answers and help IS giving I've just not studied enough or did the reference work to see the value of their answer.... - bandit51jd, Aug 7, 2010
It's up to us to follow the "lead" or the "gem/treasure" and get the real sense of the answer. - bandit51jd, Aug 7, 2010

Fontanero " to see where 'they' lead.." - FELIZ77, Aug 6, 2010
Thanks Feliz. I typed "where they're leading" and changed it. Badly. - fontanero, Aug 6, 2010

I agree with fontanero that unexpected gems of learning can come from allowing threads to go any which way. But for the sake of you, the 'asker', it could be useful to reiterate the point if you still need help. smile
