Usage of Personal a (Reference Article Error?)
hi
In a reference article i saw this
**4. Indefinite Pronouns about Person(s)
The personal a will be used as explained above with the following indefinite pronouns: Alguien (somebody/someone/anyone)..Alguno (some) in reference to people Nadie (nobody/no-one)........................Ninguno (none) in reference to people Quién (who/whom)..............................Cualquiera (any) in reference to people
Examples:
4.1 No veo a nadie con quien trabajo. I do not see anybody I work with. 4.2¿Quién aquí trabaja conmigo? Who here works with me? 4.3 No veo a nadie que conozca. I do not see anyone who I know.**
But in the example 4.2 we can not see personal a! why is that so? Don't we use personal a in that example?

An excellent question!
The personal "a" is required in front of a noun naming a person or persons, or a pronoun standing in the place of a person or persons, when the noun OR pronoun is used as a direct object. In example two, 'quién' is the subject of the sentence.
I hope this is helpful.

Yes , well with people you need to use a ... But in that example i think it's not used because it's simply the question word Quién ... Well, but normally for example ;
"Después del terremoto a su tía , no la vi nunca mas..." = After the earth quake I have never seen his aunt.
or
"¿A mi mama , la dijiste que mañana nos vamos a ir? = ** Did you say to my mother that we are going tomorrow?
As you see.. But in that situation it's not used because that question asks the subject. The answer will be "Nosotros trabajamos aquí." or " No está aquí ahora." So if it asked the 2nd person there would be an a over there. ![]()
Summarizing what has been said, it would seem that in the reference article for Personal "a", example 4.2 (¿Quién aquí trabaja conmigo?) is an instance where the Personal 'a' is not used. I agree.
However, the context of that section states:
The personal a will be used as explained above with the following indefinite pronouns:
Alguien (somebody/someone/anyone).Alguno (some) in reference to people
Nadie (nobody/no-one).......................Ninguno (none) in reference to people
Quién (who/whom).............................Cualquiera (any) in reference to people
Examples:
And then it lists three examples. Number 4.2 is one of those examples. To me it only makes sense that all three examples should illustrate how to use the Personal 'a'. To throw in an example of where it is not used seems illogical without explicitly stating so.
Moe's article is very well written and has helped me greatly in getting a grasp on this concept. (I had no idea it applied to pets until I read it!) So in the interest of refining what is already excellent material, is this something that should be corrected?
