As a verb, they are the same. You can use either one.

But ask is only a verb and question can be a verb or a noun.

I ask you how you are today.

I have a question for you,or may I ask you a question?

As a verb, question can imply more intensity, almost a challenge.

The detective questions the suspect.

The scientist questions the theory.

The question was difficult.

The questions on the test were easy.

Hola, Kawalero.

Ejempos de "question" como un sustantivo:

1) I have a question = Tengo una pregunta

2) Can I ask a question? = ¿Puedo hacer una pregunta?

3) Do you have an questions? = ¿Tienes alguna pregunta?

4) The question is complicated. = La cuestión (asunto) es complicada.

Ejempos de "ask" como un verbo:

1) Can I ask you a favor? = ¿Puedo pedirte un favor?

2) Can I ask a question? = ¿Puedo hacer una pregunta?

3) Don't ask! = No quiero hablar de eso!

These can be used interchangeably. But, more specifically, you can ask something of someone, like

I asked him to go to the store.

Question is usually used in an interrogative sense, like

He was questioned by the police.

That means simply that the police wanted to ask him some questions.
