Actually mano is a feminine noun. I think what you mean to say is masculine nouns ending in a or feminine nouns ending in 0. - fatchocobo, Aug 3, 2010
And agua is also feminine. It just takes the masculine article whens ingular. - MacFadden, Aug 3, 2010

Isn't there a secondary gender rule that words derived from latin ending in -ma are masculine. el tema, el aroma, el idioma are more rules that follow the sub-rule. - sagiia, Aug 3, 2010

A hint to defeat spanish exceptions

Most exceptions to the gender rule end in "ma"

like > el clima, el telegrama, el problema, el programa, el aroma, el diagrama, el dilema, el drama, el enigma, el sistema, el esquima, el idioma, el poema, el tema y el fantasma.
