I have a sign that was hung from my grandmother's tree. It says La Asta and I'm trying to find out what that means.

If the word was Spanish it would have had to have been written as el asta.

Feminine words ending in "a" that have stressed 1st syllables spelled with "a" or "ha" take the masculine article. el hacha, el águila, el agua, etc.
