Asking to taste manzana de agua

My family will be visiting Panamá next week, and I want to ask my host kindly to allow me to try a fruit I've never tasted before. I'm least sure of my last question. Should I use "probar" a second time, or is "comer" better? Any help would be appreciated. ¡Gracias de antemano!

Hola, Yo aprendía español para preparar para nuestro viaje a Panamá. Leía sobre de manzana de agua, pero nunca lo probó. ¿Es posible que haya algunos que puedo comer? Gracias de antemano.

Since you have never tried manzana de agua before and may not like it I suggest that you use the word probar which means to try

This would signify to your hosts that you are tryng something for the first time and would only want a little in the first instance. This would avoid embarrassment if you did not like it.

If you initially use beber = to drink /comer - if it is a solid food, this could give your hosts the message that you are already familiar with the drink/ food

Of course this is only my opinion and you are free to disagree/ignore it ...if you so choose tongue wink

Regarding the words, I would say that you can use both, as they both have a distinct meaning.

"Probar" means to try something and certainly includes trying some kind of food, too.

"Comer" means to eat something.

So, as you can see, they have different meanings but they can both be used. If you want to emphasize more that you will be trying that fruit for the first time in your life, then use "probar".
