Translation of 'physician assistant'

Question

I think I might have asked this question here before, but I can't remember or find the answer. It seems to me that in this case, the word 'assistant' might be used, somewhat archaically, as an adjective rather than a noun. It is NOT 'physician's assistant.'

I would say "auxiliar médico". That's my guess without knowing the context.

Hi, Guillermo's answer is the correct one in my experience. I recently took (and passed) an exam to be a Spanish-English medical interpreter in my state, and this was the term the used on the exam.

There is a really useful forum over at wordreference.com that specializes in medical terminology. There are more Spanish-speakers than English speakers on it, which can really be helpful for those of us Spanish learners. It's ayudante de médico. Or so says my dictionary.

It's not impossible that this is one option, but I've actually yet to hear this used during my time studying to be an interpreter. Maybe there are somre regional variations. - aceydoubleyou, Aug 2, 2010
