Do you put commas between separated clauses in Spanish as you do in English?

Welcome to the forum, Kaff.

Edit: As Socceryo says, the sentence needs a connector, such as "No puedo porque estoy cocinando" or possibly, you could use a semi-colon with the sentence, "I can't; I'm cooking."

However, I believe that you do use commas in Spanish just as you would in English.

Here's a good article about Punctuation in Spanish.

That's a comma splice, you can't put only a comma there. - socceryo3, Aug 1, 2010
I agree, it would be better to say "I cannot because I am cooking." - --Mariana--, Aug 1, 2010

You don't use a comma in that sentence in English. If you do it's called a comma splice because you have two independent sentences joined by a comma with no connector of any kind. You could either put a period and make it two sentences, or use a comma and a connector like "como", "pues", or "porque".

Yes, I think is very usual. You can say : "No puedo, estoy cocinando" or "No puedo. Estoy cocinando".
