It depends on context. If it is preceded by las or by a quantity, or followed by a plural adjective (cosas raras), it is probably 'things'.

If it is not preceded by las, or a quantity, it can be the second person singular present subjunctive of the verb coser, to sew or to staple to gether. And sounding very much like that is coses, second person singular present. According to my version of SpanishDict.

In a novela or in the news?

If he is hearing it used frequently it is more likely they are meaning things. How often do they talk about sewing on television? Not much. - sagiia, Jul 31, 2010
I'm glad you asked. He menitioned Univision and if he is watching the news about the gangs, it could have to do with stabings or shootings. - LateToDinner, Jul 31, 2010
coser a cuchilladas -> to stab repeatedly ,coser a alguien a balazos -> to riddle somebody with bullets. What do you want for free? - LateToDinner, Jul 31, 2010
And that is why I mentioned context. jeje. - LateToDinner, Jul 31, 2010

Welcome to the SpanishDict forum, johnipayette!

cosas is the plural of cosa

cosa = thing

cosas = things

I looked in the SpanishDict dictionalry and didn't find it either!

Cosa - Thing, object, matter, affair. Just put it in the plural. By the way it is a feminine noun.

This is just one of the problems involving plurals where nouns get mixed with verb conjugations. Just try typing "cosa".

Hola,

When you are looking for a definition of a Spanish word there are a few things to remember.

It might be plural.

If it sounds like b, it could be v. Spanish speakers may also confuse these letters,possibly transposing them when writing something.

The h is silent and can trip you up. Spanish speakers may drop or add an h when writing.

The ll and y are pronounced the same, but, depending on the region, may sound like the English y or s before ion as in television.

The c before i or e and the z sound like s.

These are the biggies I think. There could be a few more, but all are minor compared to English. cool smile

Nice recap! If you redo, add the j and the ñ (thanks to canyon, I hear canyada for cañada) - LateToDinner, Jul 31, 2010
