It's not nearly as bad there as when I joined this site. I've spent so much time there I went ahead and installed a mini-bar, fridge, microwave, large screen TV, lounge chair, etc. I'm thinking of changing my email address to http://www.spanishdict.com/duncekorner/qfreed so that I can get mail there. The only problem is that Heidita thinks that I'm starting to like it there so she is insisting on installing a Skype phone in the corner. I'm working on an alternative:

This is where Heidi sends you if you use subject pronouns so beware!!!
Well, I have my own personal chair in the Dunce Corner, which I earned for being a frequent flyer. ![]()
Actually, there is no real shame in being sent to the Dunce Corner. If you have never been sent there, it means that you are probably not brave enough to stick your neck out and make a mistake every once in awhile. Now, you do not want to be sent there every day. However, I think it is an extremely healthy place to be sent on occasion. It is a place of learning and growth. ![]()
We have a whole line of "special occasion Duncewear" coming out for the fall season:

Usually we only send there people who really ought to know better.
Some of our members apparently love being there, because all kinds of groovy things are always cooking in the corner. ![]()

And, by the way, it's all in good fun.
The corner where dunces (people who refuse to learn or correct their mistakes, or just people that are generally ignorant) are sent. They usually are made to wear a tall white cone-shaped hat that says "dunce" on it.
Hello,
It is the place where people who ask questions they can get the answers to by using the translation tool, or who skip letters of the alphabet in the A-Z game should go to... ![]()

While we can make light of the dunce's corner in Spanish Dict and have a good laugh at it,... on a more serious note I would also like to put the other side of the story regarding the removal of the dunce's corner from Schools. I have worked for about 14 years as a teaching assistant in a primary school and have trained in child care and education.
We have a saying in England that 'sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me!' This is far from the truth .. the reality is somewhat different. I have had to re-assure crying children who have been in tears because of a few thoughtless, harsh or uncaring words usually spoken to them directy by another child.
When I was 6 - 7 years of age I was humiliated in front of my peers by a Primary school teacher in a Special Needs school who mocked me in front of the other children and made them laugh at me only it seems because I wasn't able to do some of the things that other children could do as my co-ordination relatively speaking wasn't as well advanced.. I can tell you it hurts sooo much at the time!!!!. There is no need to humiliate children to enable them too learn: they learn more effectively with their confidence and self esteem kept intact and they learn from their mistakes when someone kind and understanding patiently models to them what they should have done with clear and simple words of exlanation.
We correctly treat the Dunces corner very lightly here but the naming and shaming culture prevalent in the UK just assumes that if we embarrass someone badly enough they will learn yes they do learn they learn not to open their mouth not to admit to their mistakes and not to trust people is that the kind of values we want to teach children? I know that PC (Political correctness) can take good values to extremes !) but let us please remember in reality children do not learn anything positive through being humiliated !
At Nicole post :
Well, I have my own personal chair in the Dunce Corner.
Nicole , Can I borrow your chair for a while ? my chair is broken looks like someone stood on it
I know who did it so be careful I will get you .
It's a place that you will never wish to be in it !

I am in the corner now. I know it is for my own good. However, It needs a sweeping. Is it alright If I do a little cleanup, or do I have to sit with my head in the corner and think about my mistakes? I do not see the rules posted. i am afraid to look.
Dunce Corner Isn't it time we got the official Spanish explanation? El Rincón del Burro? La Gorra de Burro? Or is it Las Orejas de Burro? How does one say it correctly
Hi Loe, welcome to the forum again, I guess you were welcomed before, but I don't remember seeing you,
Funny thread, and all these members have at one time been in the dunce corner, but , as you can see, only "oldies" are sent there
-so the dunce corner is reserved for only the very best![]()
Quentin has of course made our life in the dunce corner fun, he offers drinks and snacks and movies...what else can we want? ![]()
Oh, yes, I am there too![]()
It's because Heidita cares for us and wants us to succeed at learning Spanish that she sends us to the dunce corner.
I fell in love with her there.
