Nunca vi que lo atraparan : I never saw that he was caught. ?

This is just an attempt, I'm sure you'll get a more correct answer from others but I had fun trying:
When I worked in that Pizzeria, two employees and I used to try to make each other laugh making faces behind the boss's back. For example, I would be operating the oven with the boss at my side (the joke was that if I would laugh I would lose). Then my friend (would put himself in line with the kitchen) a couple of feet behind my boss so that I would be able to see him but the boss couldn't. And the faces and the movements that he would make were hilarious. (I never saw them catch him)
Y se ponía en la línea de la cocina quiere decir que was making a phone call or something?
