What is the word Chavella?

Googling, I see a Mexican restaurant in Brooklyn named Chavella's and a few people with that name, but nothing else. Could you tell us where you encountered it.

In searching a bit more, it does seem to be a name for a girl:

Pronunciation: cha-vay-ya Gender: Girl Name Origin: Spanish Name Meaning: An alternate form of Isabel, which means "dedicated to God." More Info: Variations include Chavelle, Chevelle, and Chevie. Also slang for "young girl."

Can we change your spelling, and then answer?

La chavala comes up "girl' in one book and google gives us 'chick'.

Could it not just be 'chavala' which is just slang for 'chick' or 'girl'? (Un chaval is a young guy!)

It just so happens I will be going to Brooklyn in the very near future. Thanks for the tip! Maybe I'll ask the meaning of the name while I'm there.
