Notes from Volver: Said about her mother: She's a squirrel. Subs said "she's sharp". Is this an idiom or something? Gracias.

The good old RAE says:
ardilla. ser alguien una ~.
- loc. verb. coloq. Ser vivo, inteligente y astuto.

I guess what I mean to say is, "Yes." It's an idiom and the subtitle translation is pretty accurate.
