siblings and brothers

Question

I don't know how siblings and just brothers are distinguished in Spanish. If someone asks "Tienes hermanos?" and I have two sisters, do I say "Si" or "No"?

For me there are six of us in my family... When someone ask "Tienes hermanos?" I reply...

Si, tengo 3 hermanos y 2 hermanas.

You will be understood if you explain what you have rather than answering yes or no.

Es lo mismo como: " ¿Tienes hijos? ". En escritos prefiero: "¿ Tienes hij@s? "

It's the same like: "Do you have children? ". In writing I prefer using the symbol "@"

If someone asks "Tienes hermanos?"

They are generally asking "Do you have any brothers or sisters (siblings)?"

Bob's answer clears up any question as to whether they are actually brothers or sisters.
