This came up in nametaken`s thread.

Her caption:

Cuidar a los niños no tiene por qué ser dificil.

made quentin ask:

What is the purpose of the por?? Cuidar a los niños no tiene que ser difícil. - qfreed

I think he was right to ask, as this has not been explained. Good question quentin.wink

No tienes que + infinitive =

You don't have to do something/ you mustn't do something

No tienes que venir mañana. You don't have to come tomorrow.

No tienes que tomar más de dos pastillas de este medicamento. You mustn't take more than two tablets...

No tienes por qué + infinitive=

There is no need, you have no obligation, you don't need to do something.

No tienes por qué venir mañana, pero si vienes, me haces un gran favor. You need not come tomorrow, but if you do, you will do me a great favor.

**Please correct your post as suggested!** wink

Post your sentence and the English version, one sentence for each post, choose the form you likewink Read the post carefully to get the sentence right. Any question to this thread welcomegrin
