Acercar as pronominal
Hi,
Originally my question was going to be How do we say dont come close to me? Acercarse is a pronominal verb, so to say Dont go close to the chair we would say No te acerques a la silla. But when you substitute la silla with me, you need to add the indirect object pronoun.
This is what got me confused more, because I thought that the pronouns used before pronominal verbs were already indirect pronouns but obviously Im wrong because then there would be two distinct indirect objects in this example.
So, what are the pronouns in pronominal verbs called? Are they reflexive pronouns? Are pronominal verbs always reflexive (and/or vice versa)? And either way, how do you fit in other direct object pronouns?
Thanks.

Reflexive verbs are just one kind of pronominal verbs, another being reciprocal - eg Ellos se hablan mucho. They often talk to each other.
The defining characteristic of pronominal verbs is that their subjects are acting upon themselves.
Pronominals must be must be conjugated with a reflexive pronoun which is placed directly in front of the verb.
Reflexive pronouns are used in much the same way as direct-object and indirect-object pronouns; they are identical with the other object pronouns except in the third person and second-person formal.

I'm not sure if I covered all of your points but hope this will be of some help ![]()
- No te acerques a mí.
- Best to think of pronomial verbs as "pronounial" because the pronoun is a part of the verb. Pronouns aren't "placed before the verb" because they are part of the verb. Although the placement is before the verb.
- I'm pretty tired but I would think that replacing the direct object "la silla" with "mí" then "mí" is also a direct object.
- (You) don't come close to me.
It's late so please don't accept this answer. I need to review it with a fresh mind tomorrow afternoon, afterwork. Gracias.
