How do you tune a guitar that just won't tune.? Could it be a mechanical problem? PS I am a little deaf.

Viajero, I just found 2 web sites that can help you tune your guitar.

This one will give you the E-A-D-G-B-E tones directly through your computer:

online tuning

This other one will show you how it is done with a piano

If I had a dollar for every time I played the E-A-D-G-B-E sequence for a guitarist to tune, I would be very wealthy. :) - Nicole-B, Jul 24, 2010
...meaning I played those notes on the keyboard prior to rehearsal or performance. - Nicole-B, Jul 24, 2010
Thanks my freind rikko. - viajero, Jul 24, 2010
Glad to be of help, viajero. I hope your guitar is in tune now. - Rikko, Jul 25, 2010

This usually happens when you have a new set of strings installed in your guitar, and even more likely when you are using nylon strings. It may take a few days before the strings can firmly resist the tension and thereby stay in tune. However, if the strings are no longer new, most likely the problem is mechanical, i.e., the tuning pegs are not tight enough to stay in position.

I am assuming though that you are able to put the strings in their E-A-D-G-B-E tones before they go off tune on their own.

1) Change the strings.

2) Slacken all the strings a bit, give them a good stretching with your fingers and then re-tighten them (important - always tune up to pitch, never down to pitch)

3) Buy a digital tuner. They cost about £15 ($23). If you play acoustic guitar make sure it has a built-in microphone.

4) If this doesn't work take it to the guitar shop and let them have a look at it. A set-up costs about £60 ($95)

Espero que esto te sea útil.

Meantime, if you have access to a tuned piano, you may use the E(mi)-A(la)-D(re)-G(sol)-B(ti)-E(mi) in the piano keys. Normally you start with the 3rd E(mi) key from the left end of the piano... - Rikko, Jul 24, 2010
...then proceed going right to A(la), D(re),...etc. - Rikko, Jul 24, 2010
