Pues amigos, gracias a Liz y Glen...

¡Aquí está objeto misterioso numero 41!

(And Glen...no you can't guess your own MO!)

Y amigos no se olivden....

Esta foto muestra una "parte" de un objeto misterioso de mi vida real.

¿El desafío? - Adivina cuál es el objeto y la funciona del objeto.

(This photo shows a "part" of a mystery object from my life. The challenge? Guess what the object is and the function of the object.

If you can, post in Spanish and English, and, if clues are needed I will post them "along the way" so keep your eyes "peeled". And, a new rule for my game friends - you can post "multiple times" of course but please - one guess per post! That gives everyone "present" a chance to have a "stab at it" and makes it easier for me to follow the thread and the answers. Thanks everyone :o

By torch, do you mean a headlamp? - sagiia, Jul 24, 2010
No here a "headlamp" is something worn only on the head by means of some kind of "band"; a "torch" is something that would normally be "hand-held" but in this case happens to be attached to the helmet by means of the clamp. :o Hope that clarifies.... - nonombre, Jul 24, 2010
in the US we call those flashlights. - sagiia, Jul 25, 2010

¿Es parte de un casco como se llevan por los bomberos australianos y ese cosita metálica con el tornillo fija la visera?

Is it part of a helmet that Australian firefighters wear and that metal thingymajiggy with the screw attaches the visor?

That sounds like a good answer! It could also be a clamp to attach the visor to a motorcycle helmet! - Pajaro44, Jul 24, 2010

I understood that if I "accept" an answer as correct that answer receives "20" points, rather than the usual "10". I think that's right :o - nonombre, Jul 24, 2010

]Bien hecho Sagiia! Mi OM es un casco.

(Good job - that was indeed a hard one ....)

My first photo was in fact a clamp that holds a torch on the side of the helmet.

The colours of this particular Rural Fire Service helmet indicate the rank of "Senior Deputy" - the person who is second in charge of a brigade.

Generally speaking in the Rural Fire Service the more "colourful" your helmet - the higher rank you have :o

And just some vocab to finish off

La abrazadera = clamp

el casco = helmet

la antorcha = torch

segundo a cargo = second-in- charge.

Is it a clamp to hold a ''roo'' (kangaroo) bar on a vehicle?

I think ''roo'' bars are used in Australia on vehicles to protect the vehicle from damage in case you hit a kangaroo while driving.

I think it's something that attaches to a car or vehicle in order to hold something else.

I have a clamp that looks a little bit like your MO that clamps onto the window of my vehicle and supports a spotting scope. It's called a window mount.
