What exactly is "Ser" about and what and when is it used. Thanks.

"Ser" means "to be". When you ask about "when is it used", it sounds like you want to know when you should use "ser" instead of "estar" (which also means "to be"). If this is the case, please make a search as this question has been asked many times before.
