ive searched and "afortunado" came back as "fortunate" in english which is pretty much the same thing. would "suerte" mean lucky without the rest before it?

It would mean "suerte" but as "buena suerte". - pocherin, Jul 23, 2010

My boyfriend and I argue all the time about who is luckier. grin

I will say, "Yo tengo suerte" (I am lucky) and he will argue back, "Yo tengo suerte", until I finally say, "Tenemos suerte!" (We are lucky).

It's silly, but it has helped me remember the phrase.

According to our dictionary lucky can be said with several different words depending on context: afortunado, dichoso, etc.

And being adjectives they show concordance with noun gender. dichoso (male person) dichosa (female person)
