I am a storyteller and I work with three and four year old children, about half of whom speak only English and the other half only Spanish. So I try to take turns telling the stories in English one day and Spanish the nex day. This is the first line of one of the children's favorites, but I am stumped as to what Bony Legs name should be in Spanish. This is how the story begins:

"Bony Legs was a horrible, bad, bad witch. She could run very fast on her bony old legs. Her teeth were made of iron and she liked to eat little children. She lived deep in the woods in a house that stood on chicken feet."

I have heard a suggestion to call her La Pata Flaca, but she has more than one leg. La Flaquita also loses something in translation. La Zanca was another suggestion.

"A house that stood on chicken feet" is another phrase I am having trouble getting just right.

I welcome all suggestions. ¡Muchas Gracias!

Hola,

En Colombia patiseca quiere decir una persona que tiene piernas flacas. También podría ser algo como patiflaca, flacuchenta, flacucha...

Good luck finding what you need.

Gracias Luisa. El mayor parte de mis estudiantes son boricuas o mexicanos. Necesitare experimentar con unas de tus sugerencias para ver a cual ellos responden bien. - sagiia, Jul 23, 2010

How about, "Las Piernas Huesudas" for "Bony Legs"?

Wow, my kids used to love that story. Well I could give you a try - La vieja con las piernas huesudas era una bruja muy, muy mala. A house that stood on chicken feet Una casa montada sobre las patas de un pollo. It's pretty hard to get exact but if you go with the idea they are sure to love it.
