listening to spanish songs is a very good start-begin to listen to them and look up the lyrics and look up words you dont understand

All I can say is that you've got to completely imerse (sp?) your self in the language in order to learn it! Watch Spanish T.V., listen to Spanish music, read Spanish lituerature, and most of all, DON'T GIVE UP! You will have days that you can't get enough of the language, and some days you'll want to throw the towel in on the whole deal; don't give up though, it will get better with time and plenty of practice. I wish you the best of luck!

Commit yourself to it. Set realistic, attainable goals and then surpass them. Seek out new ways to encounter Spanish and incorporate it into your daily life. Listen to Spanish TV and radio. Watch the news in Spanish after you've first watched it in English (that way you'll understand the stories). Take the online courses at SpanishDict that Paralee teaches. She's very good. Also the online courses at La Casa Rojas (for this year only, they're free!!). Read simple Spanish books, or set the same book in Spanish and English side by side and read them both. Find a conversational Spanish group in your area. Find folks who speak Spanish and talk with them. Volunteer at an ESL program and work with a person who is trying to learn English. Attend a church that gives bilingual Sunday School lessons.

In short, get creative!!! And don't give up, especially when you hit a point that seems really hard to figure out. Just keep trying, and keep smiling.

Why don't go for holidays in Spain as long as you afford?

¿Porque no viajas a Espana siempre que tienes dinero?

Hi Lemy - I see that you have put 'intermediate' on your profile for English. Does this mean you learned English as a second language? I would be very interested in your methods for learning English already (to see if I could apply them to Spanish). Thank you for sharing! smile smile smile
