¡Mal Computadora!

¡Mal Computadora!

So my computer decided to be a mean little bugger today, started by not registering any devices, and restarting (although restarting isn't really appropriate as it would have to shut down to do so) and being a pain in the behind. I took it apart, removed most of the components and cleaned them, put it back together, turned on the computer with each stick individually, still screwed up. Put both sticks in and tried in vain to turn it back on. Still had the restarting problem. Finally turned it off, called geek squad and made an account; I plan on going down later on today to put it in for a check up.

However, it is working again, only I'm afraid to turn it on and run it as when it still wasn't working my smaller hard drive sparked and blew some smoke. I think it might have just been dust on the powersupply connectors but still don't want to take chances. But now I'm gonna feel like a dope telling the geek squad "I fixed it, I just want you to make sure my computer won't burn my house down.

I wish I knew some Spanish words to say when angry, as I get get angry often and it would be good practice. wink

Premiteme tratar. AAAAAAH. ¿Porqué el computadora? ¡No me gusta! GGGGRRRR.

I love you cold. - Fredbong, Jul 21, 2010
your smaller harddrive failed, that solved the problem, therefore that was the problem. computers dont like to start up when there is a bad harddrive. you should have reconnected all parts one at a time, not just the ram, and tried booting after each one. - Malenor, Jul 21, 2010
then, after reinstalling the smaller harddrive, the problem repeats itself finally, and you say 'ah ha!' no spanish required, unless youwant. - Malenor, Jul 21, 2010
As it turns out the smoke actually came from the power supply for my optical drive. I mistook where it came from. - Fredbong, May 19, 2011

If you want a more "adult" tone we can PM you... - LuisaGomezBartle, Jul 21, 2010
I would appreciate it if you would PM them to me, though I probably won't ever use them, i'm sure I'll hear them someday, would like to be in the loop. - Fredbong, Jul 21, 2010

As an electrical engineer, software programmer, and computer geek, I can tell you that sparks and smoke are a bad sign. That smoke is the magic smoke, and if you let the magic smoke out, it won't work anymore.

Seriously, you need to get it checked out. There shouldn't be enough current flowing for a little dust to cause that.

I can give you a bunch of Spanish words to say under these conditions, but not on a family friendly forum.

Went to geek squad, they said everything is fine, so far as they can tell. - Fredbong, Jul 21, 2010

My Spanish / Peruvian colleague calls it "ordinador". Every single time, I say "what"? You mean "computadora"?

One of my engineering buddies was born in Spain. I have to translate for him when he tries to talk to Mexicans. ;-) - KevinB, Jul 21, 2010

To quote Frances de Talavera Berger from the cover of her book: ¡se le ha metido el puro demonio a este teli (in this case, computadora)! The rest I will PM to you.
