Sorry, Kid. All that I can suggest is that you call around and get quotes from other drivers to see what they charge. Then you can compare it to what you're paying.

There is no need for an apology.

In response to Maria-Claire comment,oh viajero be nice smile we're happy to help if we can - if no one knows - no harm in asking I say smile - Maria-Claire 4 hrs ago flag

I was being nice; I tried to give him solutions to his problem. The classic problem between management and labor. I took the time to answer his question. I wanted him to see the problem from the point of view of labor.

I felt that Mr.petersenkid2 was fishing for opinions to reinforce the point of view that the driver was getting pay enough or more than enough for his services.” I think I'm paying him a lot, but would like some benchmark figures - if you have them. Thanks!” - petersenkid2 15 hrs ago Otherwise, Why ask the question ? and in a language forum to booth.

I feel bad for the driver .He made the mistake that inexperience businessmen make. They underestimate their fixed costs and after awhile they realize that their original estimate was too low.

I was being nice. I took the time and made the effort to answer a question….in my opinion that is being niece Some readers my not like the answer or the might not like the way the answer was made. But never the less, I did not ignored the questioner.

Ok, labor is dirt cheap in Mexico. A good auto mechanic makes about 15 bucks a day if that much, same thing with an electrician, carpenter, and or what have you. The issue here is that he is giving you two services, his labor and the use of his car, van, truck or what ever you want to call his vehicle.Remember he has to pay for repairs and maintenance for his vehicle -hopefully he has liability and collision insurance. I am curios, what makes you think that we,whom are not living in Mexico should advise you how much services rendered in Mexico city are worth. Are we smarter because we are not Mexican or what? What you should do ( I know you won't do it) is to call your country embassy,in Mexico and ask for their advise. After all they are in a better position to know that sort of thing.

But even more important, you should pay him what his services are worth to you. Why worry if the amount is too high or too low? If he is not happy with you or you are not happy with him- get some one else.

Thanks for the response, but the question was written in Spanish, mainly directed at those people in Mexico familiar with the local situation. - petersenkid2, Jul 21, 2010
And - an understanding of the going rate is always valuable. I guess my mistake was posting the question on this message board. I should probably look for a Mexican Ex-pat message board instead. - petersenkid2, Jul 21, 2010
Exactly, my friend this is a language forum not a labor board. - viajero, Jul 21, 2010
I posted it under the culture and travel category. - petersenkid2, Jul 21, 2010

Well you never know who reads these pages too, someone might have spent time in Mexico and have a fair idea (pardon the pun, lol) - Not me I'm afraid but Jeezle maybe? He may come along later or you could PM him.

Not sure if this will be of any help but I couldn't find too many pages with taxi fare specifics.

What is his service worth to you? If you don't trust him, why work with him.? Ask some taxi trivers in Mexico what would they charge.

Just trying to get an understanding of the "going rate". I think I'm paying him a lot, but would like some benchmark figures - if you have them. Thanks! - petersenkid2, Jul 21, 2010
