I am not a SPanish expert. I am a doctor.I think in English we frequently come up with terms or scientific jargon that are kind of concentrated concepts. My approach to this would be to rewrite it in English:ie Additional/extra food or snack to make up for the calories missed at a meal or additional/extra insulin to cover the amount of food eaten over the planned amount. ( I am not exactly sure which situation you may be referring to.)

Rephrasing the English may make it simplerm to do a direct translation in Spanish.

Maybe you can give a little more context. This answer will bring the question back to the top of the page and maybe a native Spanish speaker will see it.
