This Wednesday, Charlie's Chat Fun Pack!

Question

OK, this coming Wednesday, the 21st of July, I will be holding a chat session at 6 PM Eastern U.S. time (EDS). And yes, that would be 11 for those in England and 12 midnight for the Spaniards. This chat will be for intermediates and/or advanced.

In the beginning, we'll just have a free form chat where anyone can say whatever, talk about whatever, etc. Then, 'class' will begin:

Here's the assignment. Pick a movie - a movie that REALLY interests you so that you'll have much to say about it. Then you'll play movie critic and tell us the general plot, why you liked it, favorite parts, actors, downsides, etc..basically try and recommend to us a movie to watch and give reasons.

Conversely, you can pick a really BAD movie and tell us reasons NOT to watch it and why it stunk so bad.

So for people worried about not knowing what to say - This gives you time to think about what to say. Think about a movie, and think about some possible words you may need in advance and find them out. If I'm going to talk about Robocop, it might be a good idea to know how to say 1) guns 2) violent/violence 3) death, pretty much every gruesome word there is, haha. Think about what you might say for your movie review, go through it in your head and find those words you don't know.

I mean, the exercise allows for some pre-planning like this..but the idea is NOT to write a script out beforehand and just read it later. The idea is to have all the necessary vocab words and adlib a coherent vocal expression that requires thinking on your feet..which is what talking in real social settings is all about. Ideally, you know all the necessary vocab and grammar, you just need to put it all into action on the go. Have a general idea of what you want to talk about, but don't plan it out word for word. That's it. I think this'll be a nice, fun and challenging activity. Solo lo dificil estimula. See you all this Wednesday!

I work nights on a rotating schedule, and unfortunately this is my Wednesday to work. I really like the idea, though. Are Wednesdays going to be the 'regular' night?
