How has Spanish benefitted your life?
Hey guys. I am currently studying Spanish at high school. So I was just wondering, why did you guys decide to learn Spanish? How has it benefited you in your life? I really want to travel in the future. That is the main reason I took it

For me, the main reason for learning a language is philosophical. If you don't have a word for something, you can't talk about it or describe it. The words in each language have their own shade, their own varient, and learning to understand concepts that don't exist in your native language allows you to think of and experience the world in different ways than you would if you did not know that language. In Spanish, the most important example that I can think of is their differentiation between ser and estar.....splitting out the process of "being" into the immutable (ser) and the transitory (estar). An amazing way to sort out what's really important in life (ser) and what is not. Good luck in your studies, and I hope that you also find words or concepts that open up the world to you in a whole new way.

I've always said I would like to speak another language but never bothered to do anything about it, but after a recent trip to Cuba I decided on Spanish and got started! I have only been doing it a couple of months but feel like I have learnt so much already. I haven't had any huge benefit from it yet but it has given me something to keep my mind busy and I am never bored anymore as I always have notes in my bag or at home to keep me going. I obviously want to use it as much as I can in Cuba next year too!!

I wanted to take French when I first started learning another language, but my mother said that Spanish would be more useful. I proceeded to study Spanish for 6 or 7 years...and now I am so glad that I did. I recently met a very handsome man whose first language is Spanish and who speaks very limited English. The only reason we were able to start up a conversation was because I was able to speak to him in his native tongue. Who knew that, so many years later, I would be so thankful that I took the time to learn the language! To me, learning a new language opens up so many doors to meeting new people, learning about a new culture, and visiting new places!
Well, I learned because all my relatives on my mom's side speak at least diffrent languages from the Phillipines. I'm the only one who can't even understand it because my mom didn't teach me :(. But I'm now in ninth grade learning Spanish, and loving too haha. Now whenever I go to a Mexican restaraunt now I actually know what I'm eating :D! Also, there are also many Spanish signs around my area and I never knew what those places were! Turns out they were all just restaraunts or markets. Plus, there are some people who don't speak English in my classes and now I know what they're saying hehehe. Oh, and I can understand Shakira song's now 
(a Echoline) Wow, you've put words to something I've felt many times. Sometimes when talking to my family or friends, I wish I could say things the way I can in Spanish. I can do different things with my words than in English. And it's opened my mind up to new ideas and concepts that I feel like others are missing out on.
As for how Spanish has affected my life: Similar to other people who have already answered, I have a Mexican boyfriend who doesn't speak much English, hardly any. We met at a party and since we can talk in Spanish we hit it off. And my Spanish has improved greatly as we talk every day for hours.
Also, I've found a lot of good music in Spanish. I've always liked music in foreign languages, but it's cooler in Spanish because I can understand it. My newest find is Panda. It's exactly the kind of rock that I like. :D
Overall, it's just been fun learning. I'm interested in languages and cultural things. It's a nice exercise for my brain.

For me, Spanish has meant that i can speak to my Mexican boyfriend in his own language- though it's really unnecessary because he is fluent at English 
but i wanted to do it anyway . At the moment he is teaching me and i'm learning with spanishdict, but next year i would like to go and study it at Uni
