Perhaps my example was unclear. What I am realy looking for is a Spanish phrase that means to show-off in the opinion of others... i.e. to show-off knowledge, to show-off a new trick etc. Does this help? - paulfhiggins, JUL 15, 2010

Comer delante de los pobres: to eat in front of the poor-- to show off in front of those less fortunate.

"Estaba comiendo delante de los pobres"

Not quite "showing off" but similar in my opinion:

Darse lija: to give oneself sandpaper. Darse paquete: to give oneself package.

Both mean to be full of oneself, to put on airs.

"Se estaba dando lija delante de sus amigos"
