How would I use the verb "dormir" in this sentence: Yo necesito ______ ocho horas todas las noches. Do I need to change the verb to to "duermo" or is the use of the verb necesito all I need to make the sentence correct? Thanks!

You do not need the "yo". - Eddy, JUL 15, 2010

I believe all you have to say is "dormir".

"Yo necesito dormir ocho horas todas las noches".

Thank you! That's what I thought, but wasn't quite sure. - Daereon, JUL 15, 2010

to need 8 hours of sleep is a verbal phrase acting as a noun. It is what you need: the direct complement of the sentence. The infinitive form of the verb is often used as a noun in Spanish (after prepositions, e.g.).

Think of it as "I need TO sleep." If you said "Necesito duermo." That would be saying "I need I sleep."
