Your question: le gusta **a la playa??? is (a) a reqirement ?**

No, I would say the **a should not be there

Instead, you should say, **le gusta la playa

= You like the beach (you: sing)**

however, you can say: a mí me gusta la playa

= I like the beach (lit: the beach is pleasing to me)

but the prefix a mí does not always have to be present from what I understand from Paralee's teaching but is optional

as Kwetmore rightly says... it just adds emphasis

The "a mi" just adds emphasis. It's not necessary. Your right no "a" needed before the playa, unless you want to say "ir a la playa" - DonK, JUL 14, 2010
