What are some popular Spanish songs currently?

This summer, in a few days, i will be going on a trip to Mexico and I have heard that if you watch Spanish television and listen to Spanish music, and that if you go down to Mexico already knowing some of their hot songs, then the locals are often really impressed. So I was wondering if anyone knew of the latest songs in Latin America/Mexico?

Great question... I have been listening to some older (late 90's and early 2000) rock songs. I am interested in what others have to say... - kerflop, Jul 13, 2010

I enjoy listening to a band called Maná. Slow, rhythmic lyrics. Easy to follow, easy to listen to, easy to interpret. Check em out smile

Behave down there... one of my favorite songs off their Arde El Cielo album released in April 2008 is called "Clavado en un Bar".

Also on Facebook they said their new release is due out summer of 2010.

Wisin y Yandel, Alexis y Fido, DJ Flex, Daddy Yankee, Shakira, Thalia, Belinda, Pitbull, Aventura, Fanny Lu, Enrique Iglesias, Camila, AK-7... They are popular with my Mexican friends... Not sure how many of them have recent singles though. Chart-topping American artists are also popular in Mexico... Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Black Eyed Peas, Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Jay-Z, etc.

No one mentioned this but it is a great way to find new artist that are similar to the music you love... Pandora, it is a great little website that will allow you to listen to your favorite artist by creating your own little radio station. I created one that is Musica Latina where I have added all the artist I like. Now, the music that comes up may not be as current as you like, it is still a great way to expand your Musica listening...

Yes, MattM is right, Maná is a nice band to listen to!

But also in some states I think bands like Chuy Lizarraga with his song "La Peinada (La Peinadita)" are really popular. La Peinada essentially means the babe, or literally "the well-groomed woman" if you didn't already know!

Anyway, here's a list of other good bands!

  • Aventura
  • Hello Seahorse!
  • Zoé
  • Café Tacuba
  • Caifanes
  • Shakira
  • Enrique Iglesias: "Cuando Me Enamoro"
  • Thalia
  • Pitbull

I do think Shakira is popular in Mexico...but if not there are all those other ones.

I know a lot of times OUR music (Los EEUU) is very common in Mexico and surrounding Latin American Countries. But, if you want to be up in their hip stuff, go to www.musica.com and there are a lot of songs there.

Also, delicast.com has options to listen to radio stations from countries around the world. You can tune in to a spanish station and see what they play. But, i'll list some of the bands I like to listen to para practicar mi español.

  • Gente de Zona (Cuba)
  • Darksun (España)
  • Wisin and Yandel (No sé)
  • Aventura

There are others but I can't think of them right now. Good luck on your search y ¡que tenga un buen viaje!

Edit for spelling =p

Pruebale estos intérpretes mexicanos, Alejandro Fernandez, Julieta Venegas, Ana Bárbara y Ana Gabriel. Son suaves y las letras muy inteligibles.
